Shoes that create an outfit

Shoes are necessary, there is no doubt about that. But they can also be the star of an outfit - giving it the perfect completion and creating that vintage look down to the last detail. For many of us ballet flats are a great compromise as they are timeless and so comfortable, but have a look at these shoes from Modcloth and imagine what you would wear with them if they were the basis of the outfit.
I'm not sure about the name, but these shoes are perfect for 30s/40s outfits as a jazzier version of Oxfords.

I don't know about you, but silver shoes are like magic for me. Just think of the little 20s outfit you could put together with these.

Classic two-tone shoes that would look great with a 40s dress or a sweater and pleated skirt. Versatile and classy.

You can go from the 30s to the 70s in these little heels. Fresh and bright, perfect for summer, but oh-so-chic with the right winter tights.

The lesson is, I guess, that if you wore a plain black tea dress with any of these shoes you could begin to create the era you want to represent from toe to tip. Don't forget the right accessories are also a must, but when in doubt a string of pearls does very nicely.
